Unique opportunity to have a pivotal impact as a Board member of the Polishing Stone Foundation, who will guide the growth and financial stability of a new educational nonprofit that is serving a crucial purpose: to bridge the gap between the sustainability community and others who do care deeply about the quality of their lives and the future of our planet, but have yet to find a source of information and inspiration that they can actually take in and use every day. We promote hope through inclusiveness, and the understanding that each of us changes the world - one positive step at a time.

The Polishing Stone Foundation (PSF) is a 501(c)3 educational nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of our lives, creating community and caring for our world. PSF publishes an ad-free magazine called The Polishing Stone which provides practical ideas and encouragement for making choices in our daily lives that are healthy, fulfilling and tread more lightly on the earth. Concise and solution-oriented, our unique magazine both informs and inspires, presenting whole-food recipes, tips on natural health care, gardening, home remodeling and environmental products. It also offers thought-provoking essays on relationships, parenting and community as well as investigative articles on social and environmental issues.

Our organization is still in start-up phase, in the process of transitioning from a "founding" Board of Directors to a "working" Board. This expanded Board will guide the foundation as it continues to develop the funding needed to fulfill its mission and reach long-term financial sustainability.

Qualifications for prospective board members:

  • Willing to actively work to ensure the healthy growth of this organization, with a minimum commitment of 8 hours/month
  • Able to contribute in a team setting as well as independently
  • Either possessing or willing to acquire fundraising skills
  • Have expertise in one or more of the following areas: fundraising, marketing (including online marketing), strategic planning, budgeting and finance/accounting, grant writing, business development, project management, Web presence, legal advice, public relations and/or community organizing
  • Note: PSF welcomes diversity: members of varying age, gender, cultural, linguistic, ethnic, racial, religious, political and economic backgrounds.

Our board terms are typically set as a two-year commitment. For more information on the Polishing Stone Foundation or this position, please see www.polishingstone.org or contact us at info@polishingstone.org.
