"Let us begin to imagine the worlds we would like to inhabit, the long lives we will share, and the many futures in our hands. "

— Susan Griffin

"It's not what you give up; it's what you take up that counts."
— Dr. Bernard Jensen

Thank you for considering offering your time and energy!
Everywhere you contribute, you make a difference. We offer you the opportunity to have a pivotal impact in the growth of our new educational nonprofit organization that serves a crucial purpose: to bridge the gap between the sustainability community and others who do care deeply about the quality of their lives and the future of our planet, but have yet to find a source of information and inspiration that they can actually take in and use every day. We promote hope through inclusiveness, and the understanding that each of us changes the world — one positive step at a time. Free of judgment and full of hope... (Read more...)

Website Developer: (Virtual opportunity)

Are you Web design savvy and interested in a virtual opportunity to help a growing nonprofit organization? There is a good body of free information on our website, posted as a public service. We are in need of volunteers to help to make that information more readily accessible and also to highlight awareness of the need to fund this service. Projects include the following:

  1. Optimize for search engines
  2. Continue the roll out of "forward to a friend" and donate subscribe link features in Articles Archive
  3. Reorganize Resource Links section
  4. Research options/implement an internal search engine function

This is a virtual opportunity, and volunteers will need a computer with either Dreamweaver or Homesite. If you would enjoy working on any of these projects, please contact corinna@polishingstone.org. Thank you for helping to make our work possible!

Educational Outreach:

We have launched a new marketing program to connect with businesses and organizations who may be interested in partnering with us. Our Partner Program will enhance their business and/or organization, while helping us to increase our educational outreach through a broader readership.

  • Research Assistant: (Virtual opportunity)
We are seeking volunteers who enjoy independent research using the internet. Volunteers will be assigned a general research category within which they will help us to brainstorm specific companies/orgs and then complete an initial research template about each company. Volunteers should have organizational skills, be proficient with the internet and word processing programs (such as MS Word). Partner Program details at http://polishingstone.org/polishbythepack.html.

  • Contact Liaison: (Virtual opportunity)
We are seeking volunteers who enjoy networking and meeting new people, to connect with businesses and organizations in their local communities that would be a good fit for the Polishing Stone Foundation (PSF) Partner Program. Volunteers will be given background information on PSF, our mission, commonly asked questions and talking points. Our staff welcomes the opportunity to brainstorm with volunteers about how best to serve their communities in partnership with PSF. Partner Program details at http://polishingstone.org/polishbythepack.html.

Grant writer: (Snohomish, WA and virtual opportunity)

As a newer nonprofit, to date we have focused our energy on developing a foundation of donors through direct requests of readers and community supporters. We have also researched both community fund groups and larger granting institutions for which we feel our work and missions are a good fit. We seek the assistance of volunteers with experience in the grant funding arena for the following needs:

  1. Review community fund/grant research
  2. Set up a priority list of application based on feasibility and grantmakers' application calendars
  3. Create a base template for grant applications
  4. Initiate introductions to funders/granting organizations
  5. Fill out applications for funding

Please email kylie@polishingstone.org or call us at 360-862-8369 to explore this essential project.

About PSF

Free of judgment and full of hope: The Polishing Stone Foundation (PSF) is a 501(c)3 educational nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of our lives, creating community and caring for our world. PSF publishes an ad-free magazine called The Polishing Stone, and a free E-newsletter called Stepping Stones, which provide practical ideas and encouragement for making choices in our daily lives that are healthy, fulfilling and tread more lightly on the earth. Concise and solution-oriented, both publications inform and inspire, presenting whole-food recipes, tips on natural health care, gardening, home remodeling and environmental products. They also offer thought-provoking essays on relationships, parenting and community as well as investigative articles on social and environmental issues.
