Natural Hair
by Lee Revere
I am so happy to have a health-conscious hair stylist in my own backyard. Terri Curtis, owner of Eden Organic Salon in Monroe, Washington, uses the safest products available on her clients' hair. Recently, Terri generously offered to share some of her natural-hair-care tips with our readers:
Baking Soda Rinse: Terri says this is good for removing build-up from hair products such as gel or hairspray. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of baking soda in 1 cup of warm water. Use your fingers to work the liquid mixture through shampooed hair and then rinse. Finish with the vinegar rinse described below. Note: This also removes chlorine if you make it into a paste; apply it for 3 minutes and then rinse.
Vinegar Rinse: Use this rinse as often as you like. It's good for returning your hair to the proper pH, smoothing down your hair's cuticles to increase shine and for holding in added color. (Terri says you won't smell like vinegar.) Add 2 tablespoons of vinegar (any kind except balsamic) to 1 cup of warm water. Use your fingers to work the mixture through shampooed hair. Rinse and then condition as usual.
