Jump-Start Your Immune System

With kids heading back to school and the days getting shorter and cooler, we start to think about "flu season." While getting sick is a very normal and somewhat healthy experience, there are things we can do to prevent us from getting sick, or to at least mitigate the effects.

One of the best ways to help build your immune system is to take a homeopathic called Dolivaxil. It is comprised of the viral strains identified by the World Health Organization for 2004 - 2005. These various strains are combined into a homeopathic formula that is taken over the course of several weeks. It's a wonderful, natural and safe "vaccine." By contrast, the flu vaccine can undermine the body's own natural immune system and cause it to become more susceptible to further viruses.

In addition to Dolivaxil, some of my favorite supplements are zinc (30 - 45 milligrams per day) and vitamin C (1,000 - 2,000 milligrams per day)*. Proper rest, healthy food and exercise greatly diminish your risk of getting sick, as well.

I also recommend taking a glandular containing thymus, spleen and adrenal. These particular glandulars are not helpful for an active infection, but work great to help build the immune system. The glands should come from animals raised humanely, and free of hormones and antibiotics. Generally, if the label says it's from New Zealand bovine, the source is good.

If you do get a nasty infection, berberine sulfate (400 milligrams four times per day) and colloidal silver (one teaspoon three times per day) can act as a great natural antibiotic. Most health food stores stock all of these recommended supplements.

Getting sick serves a purpose and can help detoxify the body. In fact, a fever helps to "burn out" the virus and speed up the recovery process. When I get sick, I actually try to induce a fever. Fever treatment is one of the oldest naturopathic remedies for dealing with almost any sickness.

To induce fever: Drink 8 ounces of freshly ground ginger tea and then get into a hot bath with the water temperature at 106 degrees. Immerse yourself in the hot water fully. Keep a small bucket of cold water nearby and soak a washcloth in it. Apply the cool cloth to your head to keep from getting lightheaded. Stay in the water about 30 minutes so your core body temperature will rise.

Once out of the tub, dry off quickly, put on lots of clothes and go to bed immediately. Most likely, you will start to perspire and feel the fever come on, which is precisely what you want. The next morning you should feel better, and the fever should have broken.

* All amounts are adult dosages.
