Chickweed Poultices

Uses: For stings, wounds (open and closed), red inflamed conditions.

To make:
Swift Spit Poultice: Chew up a bit of the plant and apply directly.

Simple Crushed Poultice: Break down the plant by using a mortar and pestle. Pour boiling water over a handful of the plant material and apply the warmed plant directly to the area.

Combined Herbal or Large Area Poultice: Chop up the plant(s). Using a food processor, add a bit of hot water to help soften before mixing. If you like, add some thickener (arrowroot powder, cornstarch or flour) to make the poultice gel.

Application: Apply the poultice directly to the affected area and leave it on until it cools. For eye conditions, apply directly to the closed eyelid(s). Cover with a large washed leaf, such as cabbage, lettuce, comfrey or geranium. Then bind, if needed, with a thick layer of cotton bandages. Discard when warm and apply a new poultice as necessary.

Important Note! The poultice will be hot and full of the drawn impurities. Discard after use.
